back home now, we flew into fox glacier on the 1st jan and had very unsettled weather for pretty much the whole 3 weeks we were on the west coast, so we didnt head over to the balfour. Maybe next year
We headed over to cook just in time for a big high floating over the south island and great weather. we walked up the hooker, rested a day at gardiner then headed over baker saddle and climbed the directissma start to the hanging glacier where we bivied. Next day we climbed a couple of pitches up we thought was directissma but realised it was carter-gough. We traversed back onto directissma and ended up doing 19 pitches above the glacier before we simul climbed for a couple of hours topping out at 7pm. Five rap's down the "ledges" got us back on the snow, getting late and knowing the descent was gunna be a little tricky we bivied under beatrice. Up early in the morning we got back to gardiner in a few hours by following the description in the guidebook. Great adventure
