I have climbed NZ south faces in Oct and frozen my feet in the spastcs, have also been up the hooker in my leathers in Oct and my feet were roasting. All depends on how your body is at getting the blood to the extremes. Another option for the plastics, which my mate used till he bought the Trango extremes (and he uses these for winter alpinism) Is to cut a camping mat up and use it as a shin guard.
