we live on a road that is possible the quickest way to melbourne from Echuca and there is a very large number of trucks (truck and dog ) still going to melbourne loaded with wood . Almost all of this is from the nsw redgum forests most of which are privately owned . for a lot of people it means that they can earn income with only a ute trailer and chainsaw though a lot of the operations are huge and very big loaders splitters etc.
We heat 2 houses with wood fires and a slow combustion stove and don't even use all the wood we grow . If a tree is burnt the carbon is converted to co2 but if left to decay and rot then is converted into ch4 which is supposed 10 times a worse green house gas than co2
