There is something else at work here though. The totality of the experience on the roads should result in car drivers hating other drivers more than cyclists - the number of negative encounters with other drivers far exceeds the number of those with cyclists, but most drivers do not tend to try to frighten other drivers on a regular basis (do they?). In my mind, it is the fact that drivers have a feeling of invincibility in a car which leads to drivers acting irresponsibly towards cyclists. I agree that drivers should spend some time on either a bicycle or motorcycle before obtaining a licence - a mile in the others shoes and all that.....
