It's ***rock*** climbing... I never ever ever use trees for upwards progress - I figure it's bad form.
Unless, that is, they are conveniently placed or using them would make the climb easier. Then I use them shamelessly.
I'm even more shameless about using them for pro - if they're there and look like remaining so, I sling 'em.
Anyway, half the moderate multipitch climbs in Yosemite have tree belays (After Six, Royal Arches, East Buttress of Middle Cathedral all come to mind), so I figure there's a proud tradition out there... |
