Aren't all first bolts the only protection between you and the ground?? Personally I am not the paranoid type and have never bothered using a screw gate on a draw, and have never had the rope/draw unclip itself...I suppose that if it really bothers you, you could carry a draw with a screw gate, or one of those fancy DMM biners that dave linked above, and always use it for your first bolt.

...but what about the second bolt...if you are well above this, and fall and your second draw unclips you will most likely deck out as well!
