JDB,

I head up there fairly regularly with a group of school kids. Since the fires the tracks have been cleaned up and there's no danger (as far as I can tell) from falling trees or anything like that. In terms of water, the Little River is fine to drink from and there is a spring near the Farmyard, on the Jawbone Creek, that is on and off. At the moment I would suggest that it would be flowing (usually a trickle but enough to fill up with) however, I usually carry a bit of extra water just to be safe. The spring is on the side of the track that leads from the Farmyard down to the Jawbones car park, a couple of hundred metres down from the junction with the North Jawbones track.

The only other difference since the fires is the closure of what I used to call the "shortcut" track from Neds Saddle towards the Jawbones area that took you on gentler route to join the ridgeline. This has now been permanently shut down as far as I can tell i.e. it is completely covered with vegetation and looks unlikely to be cleared.

I'm heading up there next week with a group so I'll check it all out again but that's probably not going to help your mate!
