I disagree. I'll sit back in my armchair, continue the thread hijack, and feel quite comfy saying these guys did not act appropriately. Nothing went wrong, there was no accident - they just ended up getting caught out by their own mistakes.
They could have sussed out the descent first, bailed earlier with enough light in the sky, arranged for a more experienced friend to meet them, or taken enough stuff to endure a benightment, according to the weather forecast.
They didn't do any of these things. They then called for help to get out of the trouble they got themselves into. Calling for help was maybe the right thing to do at that stage, and another dave did the only thing he could under the circumstances, but that help cost time, money, and could have put others at risk.
I don't want to bang on my armrest too much at theses guys - after all, I've made some of the same mistakes, and some a lot worse, and been lucky enough to get away with it. They didn't this time, and thanks to others, got out of it with hopefully nothing more than a serious case of embarrassment.
