ALL carrots/machine bolts should be pulled out or chopped over time, (ideally asap). These bolts have too many listed disadvantages to ever be included into modern day "best practice" bolting methods. I understand, but strongly disagree with the "replacing like with like", keeping in character, historical significance, "they still have the trad feel" (no they don't), they are less obvious to the public, etc etc trains of thought.
