neil - where's your local marine park ? There are some marine protected areas around Sydney, but they aren't Parks. They are mainly intertidal protection thingos.

One thing anglers get annoyed about with marine parks is all the structure in the area being in no-take zones, and all the blank bits being fishable, but there being sfa fish in the blank bits. It's like saying there's heaps of climbing available on the escarpment tops in the Blueys, but banning it on all the cliff faces.

Fishing licences in NSW were the best thing to happen to recreational angling in NSW. Monies go into a fund to support recreational fishing: research, facilities, government staff, management, etc. it's a $10Mpa fund. It was also used to buy out the pros in many areas up and down the coast. If we could get the greens and farmers to get their eyes off it, it will stay a useful and well directed government trust fund. Already the vultures are circling, hoping to slice bits of it off into stuff that was formerly general revenue expense or could be covered by other programs.
