If you paid an equivalent wage for hours put in by farmers I would imagine that few farms in the Murray Darling Basin would be there under either senario .The time I spend on my trees and solar systems is really minimal and the goulburn valley would need probably 5% of its population to do that . Dont worry the other 95% will move to Melbourne where they can live a much more carbon friendly life. Where does the food come to feed them ,we can import it from china thailand etc.
More relevantly I think is to ask why say apples that the producer is paid $1.00 per kilo is on special for $5.99 . I can have an animal killed and cut up on farm and even with its sale value and no by products from the abattoir can put it in the freezer for $4.50 per kilo You can't buy mince for that let alone the prime cuts (and it is not a 10 year old animal that is your BUDGET CUT)
