i thought brown was the new balck? darn it.......

there are a number of great guides put out in the UK by RockFax that include symbols to help steer
people in the right direction.

i know that more recent guides here in Oz have included symbols in the crag description but this could be
expanded quite easily.

the symbols, seperated into crag and route groups, greatly add to the description of the climb without
having to actually read anything nor are the to distracting. For example if the route is considered pumpy,
then there is a small graphic of a pumped forearm, if natural gear is required then a graphich of a small nut
etc. in the instance where the route is considered bold then it is indicated accordigly as "fluttery climbing
with big fall potential" or "a very serious route" ( with a picture of a gun aka russion roulette).

sure all these symbols are applied subjectively, but the information is there for the taking and should
certianly cater for the percentage of the populus that dont grasp the nuances.

I thought the Rockfax guide ( i have only used the Wales one) was excellent.
