Ballarat is kinda far from the Victorian Alps, and there isn't that much technical climbing anyway.
Probably the best thing about Ballarat is its proximity to the Grampians. Depending on where you wanted to go you'd be there in 2-2.5 hours.
Rental accomodation in Ballarat is cheap compared to Melbourne. You might also want to look into living in some of the small towns that are nearby - places like Creswick might even have share houses given that the Melbourne Uni Forestry School is there. Good luck! |
