If you look at the protruding rock to the right of the stump, it's obvious why they did it, to avoid potentially running the rope over a cutting edge, diverting the line around the stump appears to put it into a flatter area of cliff-top which would be a smoother path for the line to travel over when repeatedly loaded and unloaded. |
