Actually they got a professional organisation to supply the easy to fit setup so that anyone could set the top rope up. There are huge concrete bollards at the top of KP so that it is a fairly trivial exercise to simply throw the end of the gargantuan sling over a single bollard and hey presto.

No it is not a setup that any one of us would use but Riverlife are happy to allow their guides to use it and the tourons are none the wiser. Usually these types of slings are inspected regularly by an outside source so I have no reason to doubt that the setup is fit for purpose.

One has to remember that KP is fairly unique with all the huge bollards at the top and a dirty great rock walled fence to seperate the masses from the cliff. No where else is there such a facility as close to the CBD of a major city. Sure it's only a quarry and it is greasy and dirty from millions of climbers paws grabbing its every hold.

I don't climb there as a matter of habit but lots do and it is sooo convenient for first timers to have a go on.

Riverlife perform a service for which they get paid obviously and they have to economise and create efficiencies wherever they can hence the solution of these dirty great sewn eyed slings. They work.
