NM, cyclicts are a classic example of the liability issues.

if Citylink provide a facility such as the bike path (i'm not saying they do, it may be some other body) then they should maintain the facility in an appropriate state, fit for use.

if you have an accident due on the path due to poor condition of path surface then you have a right to seek some sort of "correction", perhpas in the form of compensation or such and they should then identify the hazard and fix accordingly. just have to prove some failiure or neglagence on the service providers behalf, helpful if you get some legal eagal (legal aid, whatever).

I know of a case where a cyclist has sucessfully taken a council to court for a similar incident.

the same is true for footpaths and councils.

Cycling is much more dangerous than climbing.

regarding kieranl post, good luck with trying to get a "democracy" to acheive anything, 25 routes setters "open source" all wanting their say on what hold goes where like its going to be an Amish barn raising with everyone holding hands.

if it wasnt for the individal then it is questionable if the holds would have been ther in the first place. theres not much to "re-design" of a overhanging conrete wall supporting a freeway. keeping in mind that once you start altering the surrounding are to be more..lets say safe... then duty of care creeps in.

perhaps at best you have 2-3 people who know what they are doing (definately not me) such as what Schlitz said, give them the keys to the wall, a large glue gun and trust them.

but whats to stop some punk coming along an wacking up a some shit campus rungs or useless holds...nothing at all. dont tell me we are going to have the route police (a sub branch of the forum police) smashing of the undesirable holds.

Call me cynica (but dont call me late for dinner).

mmmmmmmmm rant...rant..rant...get back to work donut
