IMO strobes are primarily used in bouldering shots because it's logistically easier NOT because it's more artistically useful, as Kemple's recent Yosemite wall shots clearly demonstrate.

Ps. Just had a look through my folio and golly gosh you're right, I haven't included many bouldering shots at all! Shot #22 in the 'Adventures' folio is the only strobed climbing shot in there (I think?) and as you can see I prefer a subtler use of the lighting. That was shot with a couple a couple Nikon speedlights & a Metz 45, but I'm dubious as to whether the subtle rim I was using even fired?

PPS. On the topic of flash gear, I've just decided to sell my Metz 45 CL-4 (great condition with a couple internal battery packs, a P90 external battery w/charger and a power lead to run the flash off of mains). It's a great workhorse of a flash but I find that I'm either wanting the convenience of speedlights or the power of a floor pack and rarely anything in between.
I'll consider a swap for a good condition Nikon SB-800 (or 900 & I'll pad out the Metz with some cash), otherwise make me an offer.
