I made biodiesel for my old ute for about 4 years. Got the fat from the local pubs and the bistro at work. Very easy process and could do it for about 35c a litre (not including the labour). The worst thing was washing it in the middle of a shocking drought (about 2 L of water for every litre of BD) so in the end i didnt because she was an old clunker anyway. if you wash it properly then you get rid of the majority of acid, methanol and caustic soda used in making the stuff but BD can swell seals etc. because of the residual methanol. and also does have a property that i cant remember the name of that means it cleans all the junk and deposits out of your fuel lines from normal diesel (just need a few fuel filters when you switch) and also cleans out your injectors and stuff. the best thing about it was running my car on fuel that I had made myself from 'waste' materials and smelling like a bistro while driving around. bad thing was the chemicals. sodium methoxide - nasty sh!t. if anyone is interested i can give links to the info I used to learn to make it. damn simple.
