The dog statement is complete crap.

The carbon from the dog mainly comes from the atmosphere (CO2 into grass->cow->meat-dog->CO2 out etc.), whereas the CO2 from the car is from a fossil fuel. The dog is part of the natural carbon cycle, and not greatly increasing the overall CO2 in the air, but any CO2 from the car is not part of the natural carbon balance because it should be buried underground. Yes cows do fart some methane which is not a good thing, but it's nothing compared to burning fossil fuels.
And I'm pretty sure looking at dog meat that it's all just waste that otherwise wouldn't get used (except McNuggets), so it's complete rubbish to assume that land is specifically destroyed to 100% farm meat for dog food.

So it's comparing apples and oranges.

Yes putting too much greenhouse gas into the air is bad, but dopey journos writing articles that are about as scientific as Mythbusters won't help things and only benefits global warming deniers.
