Alright I'll admit it, I'm a Biggest Loser tragic. I don't watch it everyday, but I do watch it. I love seeing em sweat, do their makeovers and then have the big REVEAL. It's great.
What annoys me tho is at the end of every season, for their big psychological transitional moment into the new happy dynamic skinny person they will now be, they take em bloody climbing or abseiling - like the intensity of this "extreme" sport is supposed to forge this new superperson. And they did it again last night, taking em abseiling in NZ.
I know it appeals to the masses who in the main think climbing is nuts, but really, climbing should be seen as just another way of enjoying the outdoors - maybe if outdoor activities were seen as normal rather than "extreme" we wouldn't have so many fatties lining up for Biggest Loser.
Btw, I would wonder if it would seem so extreme in the UK or France or Europe for example. In the UK, ramblers become hikers become scramblers become climbers. In France kids go climbing with their family. Aussies think they're so hardcore but most of them hang out with their TV/playstation/Wii/Laptop more than the bush.
Anyway, that's my rant. I'm done. |
