Hi all,
there is a free mountaineering course in July at Arthur's Pass in NZ. It is aimed at climbers who have some alpine experience already, but want to progress to harder climbing.
The weekend course covers a wide range of techniques: pitching on snowslopes, using double ropes, simulclimbing, abseiling in the mountains, placing pro and constructing anchors while on your front-points, ice and mixed climbing, placing screws and pitons.
Arthur's Pass is a couple of hours drive from Christchurch, so isn't too difficult to get to.
If you make the trip across to NZ and the course is postponed owing to the weather, then we'll run a theory day in Christchurch for you. That way, when you head into the mountains, you can still go through all the exercises that you would have done on the course.
For further details, visit www.mountainz.co.nz and click on the small banner at the top announcing the "Technical Climbing Course".
Cheers, Glenn
