I did the LWFA course through these guys (they've since had a name change to become Equip) in late 2007:

I thought it was an excellent course - one of our instructors was a qualified ambo and guide, and the other had been an outdoor guide for 20 years. The material covered actually goes into understanding some basic anatomy and how the body works, which made it much more interesting (at least it did for me, not sure that everyone agrees with this). Focuses heavily on improvising solutions, as well as how to use the great, expensive gear that you probably will never carry.

The thing that I really enjoyed was how much of the course was 'hands-on'. After 1 or 2 hours of classroom time learning about something new, the entire group would move outside and half would act as patients while the other half 'responded'. The instructors put a lot of effort into making the training realistic, including use of props, make-up and fake blood.

In short, can't recommend it enough. Actually, come to think of it I need to do a re-cert course...
