Well, there used to be a lot of folks who were motivated enough to contribute exactly this sort of stuff to the AMIN newsletter. It sounds like what stopped things was the collating/organisation involved from then on. If it could all be done automatically just by uploading a file or two...(?) Also, if people are just posting stuff up on the web as opposed to putting it on paper they tend to have a lower standard of polishing etc, which is what you want...informal...less of a 'jeez I have to write this up properly' which is a barrier. One issue though is that some folks just don't like the net or don't have access, so it would cut out a sizeable(?) set of people straight off.

Yeah, well, that's the catch. Once a site 'clicks' and builds up enough traffic to be self sustaining then it takes off on it's own, but if it doesn't, then it looks really, really sad and noone wants to post on it.

Paul Hudson would be able to tell you how many he had 'on the books'. Then there's a lot that wouldn't have even heard about AMIN (at least from my experience). So, _theoretically_ at least there'd have to be enough of a mass in Oz. There are active Australian mountaineers frequenting overseas sites that have more traffic. |
