I agree!
But the point is 'Sporting Heroes' are served up on a plate by the media to satisfy their own self interests ie sell their product which more often than not is the TV rights or pix of them in the back page of newspapers.
To us folk who climb out the armchair every now and again, participation is the key determinant, not watchability. High Altitude mountaineering from base camp to summit doesn't fit nicely into a 90 second segment on Wide World of Sports!.
We know the effort involved in climbing a single 8000m peak yet alone the lot so we can appreciate Andrews achievements without being spoon-fed this by TV. Who gives a toss if it doesn't get a mention on the news?
Andrew will be glad he can still walk down the street of every Australian city (except Natimuk) and not be mobbed by autograph seekers.

So, my original point - he's right up there with the best, whoever you think they might be.
