the thing here that only a few have touched on is the fact that running a gym is a BUSINESS, not a CHARITY. Yes, throw enough money at a problem and it can be solved (MiKi anyone), but being a business means they have to balance the expense against the gain.

As such each business needs to decide on a business structure that'll put money in their pockets. If you look at each of the gyms you'll see they all have a different way of doing things, they have a slightly different target market and so long as their slice of the pie is bringing in the $$$ they'll continue doing it that way.

People will always complain about routes, i complain all the time, but we need to remember each gym is a business and needs to be run as such. If the more experienced climbers were worth more $$$ to the business we'd see a massive shift in the nature of how climbing gyms are set and run.
