Thought that I would let everyone know that there will be a planning meeting to discuss the rezoning of Kerr's Quarry in Ferntree Gully. The informal information evening is at the Civic Centre on Thursday 18 March between 4pm and 8pm in room 4.

I have mentioned this site before and although it may not be suitable for climbing as is, it has the potential to be a great little outdoor climbing spot in the eastern suburbs.

I gather that the meeting will mainly cover the housing estate planned for the site but half the site (cliff face and lake) will be set aside for public access. I thought that anyone with climbing interests (VCC and the like) may want to review these plans. Local outdoor and trad climbing in this area would greatly promote the sport.

Visit: http://www.knox.vic.gov.au/content.cfm?infopageid=3402 or
http://www.knox.vic.gov.au and search for "quarry".

Here is a cutting from that site:

You can look at the details of the proposal at Council offices during business hours (8.30am to 5.00pm Monday – Wednesday and Friday, and 8.30am to 8.00pm Tuesday) at 511 Burwood Hwy, Wantirna South or click on the adjoining documents.

You are also invited to come along to an informal information evening session held at Council offices on Thursday 18 March 2004 between 4 pm and 8 pm in Room 4 where Council staff and project consultants will be available to explain the strategy and answer questions. Please park at Rembrandts opposite Council if coming before 5 pm.

If you would like to make a written submission about the proposal, submissions must be received by Monday 5 April 2004, and addressed to:

City Strategy
Knox City Council
Locked Bag 1
WANTIRNA SOUTH 3152

If you have any questions about this matter, please telephone Myf Browning on 9298 8511
