It does make good sence - from the point of view of teaching good technique

You just gotta keep a hand on the rope when you belay - and teach others the same.

And if you're doing any "dogging" where you're gonna sit on the gear, the belayer is probably someone you know, imagine taking out a beginner and having them belay you for 25 minutes while you dog a hard route? Not likely if you want to climb with them again!!! hehe

I gotta agree that the stats on droppage is something that can't be overlooked - and what you also said Neil about if they get knocked into the rock and knocked out! You got a better than good chance the device will lock.

I'm assuming the device Tel brought doesn't work the same way thou? It's just a friction device isn't it. So how can that be better than an ATC or normal plate?
