when i started climbing i was very fit from triathlons. however, I think it helped bugger all with climbing - climbing is slow, non cardio based, relies on static strength, requires specific arm / hand strength/endurance, but most important, requires latic acid tolerance, not vo2 max. You don't run up a cliff. still, bieng fit makes the walk in easier, and will give general endurnace in terms how tired you feel at the end of the day, but i doubt it makes much difference in grades. maybe you can do more climbs at the same grade, but not harder climbs..
