The Tibetan Government in Exile has a platform for a democratic and secular Tibet, in which the Dalai Lama would be a figurehead. China is a highly militarized dictatorship, whose current leader cut his political teeth presiding over the 1989 crackdown in Tibet.

Why do the Tibetans want separation from the Chinese?
a, Because there is nothing Chinese about them.
b, Because since 1949, China has conducted a brutal dictatorship over all the territories it has controlled but nowhere has it been more brutal than in Tibet.

You can call that racial separatism if you want.
