That's possible Rod but we shouldn't leap to conclusions. SBS is pretty good when it comes to standing up for the Tibetan people.

I think the lead times for producing a film like that are fairly long so it may not have been available before the Olympics. It was shown in Britain 4 or 5 months ago but I think SBS probably held it back to show it when Tibet is likely to be in the news again in a big way. So, if there are political influences acting over the timing, they are more likely to be pro-Tibetan ones.

Losar (Tibetan New Year) events start happening here over the weekend. I expect both SBS and ABC to provide "pro" coverage of those events.

As previous posts have noted the Chinese security forces are very busy in Tibet at the moment.

The Dalai Splittist Clique doesn't have the degree of control in Tibet that the Chinese imagine but even in the absence of any kind of central co-ordination of resistance, you can be guaranteed that some people are going to protest on or around March 10 (the 50th anniversary of the 1959 uprising, the 20th anniversary of the 1989 protests and the 1st anniversary of last year's uprising) (ie: there were three days of non-violent protests before it turned violent on the 14th).
