I'm in Flowerdale. On Saturday night, with my wife and two daughters, we defended and saved our house and are uninjured. We were some of the lucky ones. Half of our friends have lost everything. Both girls have lost school friends. In some areas, only 3-4 houses stand where there used to be 30-40. Flowerdale, like so many of the rural hamlets that have been devastated is a great community and is now trying to pull together to recover from what has happened. But nevertheless, the devastation, pain and anguish is in many cases complete and the scars will last for ever. It's pleasing to see talk of volunteering on this site. My suggestion would be that it you really want to help fire ravaged communities...then contact the Red Cross.

As for press and photographers - the mods would delete the words I have for those that have managed to get up here. Much of their behaviour has been appaling. Although the story of what has happened here must be told, it must be told with respect for those who do not want cameras pushed into their faces during a time of family and community tragedy. Josh...I hope the message has sunk in. Please go and make a great living out of what you seem to do so well...but don't make it on the back of human grief and suffering. We don't want nor need you guys up here.
