Should we stop placing carrots? 10-Feb-2009 At 2:10:03 PM Lee C

On the hard rock topic, are carrots more commonly crap in it because they are harder to do well or is it
just in the mechanics?

I recall pulling the old stainless carrots out of Mr J on Taipan, some were only 40mm long! and they
were all impressively strong. Made me question why I bothered.
Possibly what contributed to their strength was the way they were made, unlike most peoples carrots
I've seen they were very angular, suggesting that their amount of contact with the rock was
dramatically increased compared to a neat tapering which only leaves a small ring of contact in hard
rock.
It doesn't matter too much in the gramps anyway, anyone on a ground-up adventure could easily
substitute them for expansions however I think it would be a shame to see them disappear from
places like Buffalo.
