also re: climbing descent routes - it's pretty common to solo a bit of the way up descent routes to get great shots of your friend on the route nearby. I've done this plenty of times and would be more than annoyed to see un-called rope flying past from above, or worse yet to be hit by it.

Assumption is the mother of all $#%k-ups. This sport is dangerous enough as it is without arrogant w&nkers making ill-informed assumptions.
