The Ascent of Everest, by John Hunt comes to mind, but just work your way through everything in the library (and get onto those inter-library loans!). Read stories as well as technical material.

Wallwombat holds a very good "Drinking for Climbers" course. I think the next one is on next weekend at the Honeysuckle Creek campground in Namadgi National Park, ACT.
