Climbing bum lifestyle is a choice, it involves devoting oneself to the art of climbing and living "the dream" and blah blah.
But i'm totally against people bumming the system just to have their own personal dreams realised.
I agree with Amphannny; if you want to live the dream, then work and save up then take a trip, or only work a part time - two day a week job and climb the rest of your time (you climb any more than that and you'll in an injured heap in no time anyway!)
Australia's welfare system is a safety net there for people who for whatever reason, are disabled, carers or similar, that actually cant participate and contribute to society. The welfare system is not a bottlemless supply of cash.
Young, (or old), fit, athletic climber sorts, with their ability to focus on a task, their motivation to work a route, they have the physical ability to contribute to this society we all live in.
Even if one chooses to work just enough to keep their head above water.
I believe its selfish for climber sorts to suck from the system that's in place to protect people who don't have the option to fully participate in society. |
