I'm sure he's just holding back from actually doing something to protect the environment for a little bit longer. He can't do anything that will upset his right wing colleagues just yet - or the right wing commentariat - or big business. There's a recession on you know.

Just be patient and he will start doing things for the environment when the time is right....

Unless, of course, his retirement day comes around before it has looked the right time to actually take a stand. Given that he's in his 50s already, I'd actually have my money on him getting a gold watch before he has actually taken a stand on anything.

Its showing my age a bit but I well remember seeing the Oils back in 1982 and Peter doing quite a rant about Harry "I'm a sellout bastard" Butler, who had just taken thirty pieces of silver from the Tasmanian Hydro Commission to sell damming the Franklin to the Australian public. At the time I thought Peter Garrett was the kind of guy we needed in Parliament.
