Capt_mulch - so you think you can time the market?If you could, you wouldn't be sitting at work, or at home posting messages on chockstone. you would be doing it in on the greek islands, or in on a boat in Vietnam Ha Long Bay or other exotic places in the world.

If you stayed fully invested in the Aussie market for the five years to december 2007, your return would be about 21.04%pa. If you tried timing it, and you missed the best 10 days, your return would have dropped by 6.09%pa, to only 14.95%. If you missed the best 20 = 10.95%pa, best 30 a measly 7.62%pa. So given this it sounds prudent to spend time in the market instead of trying to time the damn thing.

Also people who are retiring soon should not have been affected as much if their investments/super were structured correctly.
