I find my level of confidents on lead has a lot to do with the belayer. If my climbing buddys and belayer are realy into it and everyones feeling loose and possitive, then my own emotions and head space focus on the rock. When I've climbed with people that are whinging and say " that's too steep, that's too crimpy, that's too high, that's too low, too wet too dry, oh my hair FRICKEN HECK I broke a nail ", then I get the jitters and focus is gone. So my advice for succesful climbing of any sort is to climb with energetic climbers. People who can give you a nudge onto the next level. Good climbing partners do more than just catch you on belay. Real climbing buddys are the ones who inspire you to push the envelope physicly but are able to keep things calm when it getting a bit phsycho.
