Some of the Spanish young'uns were at Boronia yesterday. Well impressive sport climbers. Eric Lopez,a 17 year old, was one of them. After a quick warm up he asked where Veteran's Affairs(27) was. It's quite usual to stick clip the first bolt, it protects some thin, hard moves. I explained this to him. " No,no...is OK". He absolutely doddled up it. He then went over to Don't Believe the Tripe(29), also strolling up it...he wouldn't have even blown out a candle when he lowered off.
Still, for someone who's climbed 2 35's IN A DAY I don't suppose it was too much trouble for him. Really impressive strength and endurance.
It made me think of my youth...at his age I was smoking durrys, drinking whatever I could get my mits on, surfing, skating and experiencing unrequited love for the umpteenth time...
Back to the woodie, must get strong :-)
