Yep it was great. One of the IFSC officials said it was the best WYC he's been to, and he's been to all 16 of them! An American coach told me the same thing. The climbers loved the routes, the organisation, and the way that they were helped when they needed something. At least two records for climbing comps were set: everything happened on time, and there wasn't one spinning hold!
SCA and all the volunteers can be proud of what they achieved. The WYC is the biggest comp on the international calendar. Who would have thought that just four years or so after forming SCA could put on one of the best climbing comps ever!!
So congrats to the WYC committee and all the other volunteers. Steve Smith, you are a force of nature! It would not have happened without you, you held it together, and you weren't afraid to ask hundreds of people for hundreds of things. I can't mention everybody, but the WYC committee needs special mention: Smithy, Jan Brown, Doug and Judy Crump, Kip, Carl, Barry and Aileen, Miriam and Steffi, Tom and Jo Storer. And there were others who've also been doing the hard yards meeting every Tuesday night since the beginning of the year - it was a long trip but worth it in the end wasn't it?
Maybe this has shown a few people what SCA and its supporters can do. |
