I worked for CentreSports (UK), Eastern Mountain Centre, Mountain Designs (Melb) and Paddy Pallin (Melb). While working in the outdoor gear shops is not everybody's cup of tea I confess to having really enjoyed the experience. I technically only ever used the gear shops to bring in money while I built up my photography and writing business. Still, it was great and I met loads of people who are still in the industry today and who have made my professional journey a whole lot easier. Anybody who works hard and shows a bit of initiative will certainly have the opportunity to move into management and/or open up their own shop or franchise. Distributors (wholesalers) are also always on the lookout for good staff.
