The cheapest is to do a full traverse which you dont need to pass Mt.Hotham via Diamantina hut (1700m) you just start at the footbridge Harrietville which means you just do one bus ride from cbd then start the trek. but remind you if you guys doing a traverse nextime you plan it make sure to have a 3day plan for a full loop razorback traverse, but with two young kids i think the best way is still via Diamantina hut which is easy for the kids.( well the best is to have a transport ) or if the kids are experience in hiking its not bad to walk from the bus stop of Mt. Hotham village to Diamantina hut.
