try some routes in the needles in south dakota. Bolts had to be placed on lead, otherwise they were not placed. No hooks, you had to get to a stance that allowed for hand drilling. needless to say bolts are scarce at every grade. a lot of the towers you have to simul-rap off opposite sides to get down, as bolted anchors are rare as well. or if the are present, they are the original 1/4" bolts with a home-made lever-out hanger that were placed in the 50's which sometime will only take a binder with a small nose, like a hot wire or old SMC ovals. good times! |
