I've never seen anyone do stupider stuff than me. My first "Lead". I had never seen anyone lead before, in fact, I had never talked to anyone who had led, didn't have any bolt plates,(no bolts anyway) never heard of natural gear, no dynamic rope, stitch plate etc. No problem, I tried a static rope to a tree at the top, ( now a 14 25M at Brooyar Qld) hung it over the edge with my 5 carabiners clipped to figure eight knots at regularish intervals thus creating "protection" and led on another static rope, belayed by my friend in a tape harness with a Figure 8. That's what can happen when you live in the bush and someone brings out a new magazine called "Rock!" ... I'll keep the really stupid stuff to myself.
