Personally I think fear is a good thing if used in properly, i.e. personally if I'm fearful on a climb I either place more gear, or step down for a rest and re-evaluate the quality and amount of gear I have, the chance of falling and whether its a safe fall (ledges, etc), etc, etc. If you have no fear then you have no voice in the back of your head telling you when you may have over stepped the line or become overly confident and potentially make a mistake. thats just my opinion on the value of fear
