This is just what i have picked up from people in Wanaka while i was there yesterday but i dont garuntee any accuracy.
He was guiding a Scotish lady that had climbed the seven summits. They were doing an ice pitch i think above the summit rocks. He had climbed 30 m above the belay and had his two tools in while he put in some gear or made another belay. Both tools popped and he fell 60 m hitting a ledge on the way down.
I only heard this from some one that had just finished a course with aspiring guides.
It was a complete accident and its a very sad thing.
