Saw the film on Sunday, and really enjoyed it. (I read the book years ago but forgot most of the detail.)
I saw a part of myself in the protaganist, and also part of many friends, particularly some of the Natimuk folk. It brought to mind someone (who will read this post I'm sure) who I climbed with in Central Australia years ago. He had no income, owed $700 on his credit card, and had a $1000 limit. Out of the $300 available, he had to buy gas to get home. Living on the edge and loving it.
The main difference is that the rest of us don't have the courage and conviction to actually do what Alexander Supertramp did.
