The Brit grading system is a masterpiece created over many pints in a thousand pubs up and down the land. It's main reason for existing is to provide hours of fodder to chew over while supping on those aforementioned pints.
It is the best grading system in the known universe except for all the others (apologies to Winston Churchill.)
PS You'll never make sense out of Tom Patey's grades by learning about the current grading system, he was a Scotsman active in the day when the hardest grade was Very Severe and there was no seperate technical grades at all (and I've done routes given VS originally that are now given E3!!)
