It's doable for anyone. I don't think climbing ability has anything to do with it, more how much you want to do it - and your skills/work opportunities. If you want to spend more time climbing and living the climbing lifestyle - rather than simply training for it and dreaming it - then maybe you can find a way to make it work. Even if you end up working a lot there's nothing like being 10 minutes from some of the best climbing in the country. I love daylight saving and being able to sneak in a bunch of quality routes after work...

Housing affordability means people have to work more these days - even in Nati, moreso in the Bluies. Nati is the place to live if you want a low expenditure lifestyle. I lived in Nati for a few years then moved to the Bluies about nine years ago, both places are awesome in their own way. The Bluies has the advantage of it's proximity to Sydney (for work or business), though that's certainly also it's disadvantage. Fortunately the weekend is only two days a week.

All the Bluies towns have some really nice parts, but also other parts which can feel pretty suburban, it depends where you live. The trick is to find a good place with an outlook and/or bush, but wherever the climbing is never far away. I live in Mt Vic and for 6mins drive from Blackheath you get less less of an urban feel for less inflated housing prices.
