I don't think it is the responsibility of the company to send the clothes back free of charge. Why should they pay? There was an effort made to check whose gear it was (they asked others in the vicinity?). maybe the people the guide asked should have had the nouse to speak up and suggest that it may have been others at the crag???
it sounds to me like the guide was looking out for his clients, yet still considered others.
Also, you could have just picked up the gear next time you were in Ktown.
Suggesting the guide "Stole" your clothing is quite slanderous IMO.
